  It is necessary to design the future society, envision the necessary processes, and seek the appropriate elemental technologies to achieve carbon neutrality. The Society of Chemical Engineers, Japan (SCEJ) is working to develop and deepen specific case studies, technologies, and academic systems by strengthening cooperation with local industries and communities.
  Following symposiums held at every annual meeting and fall meeting since March 2020, we will hold a symposium with invited lectures, requested lectures, and a panel discussion on energy and environmental innovation and its social implementation in the afternoon on March 11th, the day before the 90th Annual Meeting. In this symposium, we will explain "Carbon Independence Vision: Circular Transformation from Hard-to-Abate Industries ver.2" and discuss the Inter-industry collaboration.
  The symposium will be open to the public with free of charge to all participants. (Registration is required.) We hope that many of you will join us in discussing the future society that chemical engineering will innovate, and that these activities will contribute to the promotion of interdisciplinary research and academic development of the society.

  This symposium aims to explore the future of food that meets consumer desire and sustainability from consumer point of view. The first half of the symposium will present three intriguing presentations with topics ranging from cultured meat, a cutting-edge technology that could make food sustainability a reality, to insect food, which has been around but is difficult to expand, and the exploration of food sufficiency from the dietary habits retrospectively. The second half of the symposium will present a workshop with participants on dietary sufficiency conditions and behavioral change towards sustainability, to explore opportunities for action.

• K-2 Systems Approach to Design of Sustainable and Intensified Processes Division of Systems, Information and Simulation Technologies

  This symposium focuses on methodology for design of sustainable and intensified processes with various spatiotemporal scales from molecular reactions to transport phenomena, process systems, and social systems. We invite Dr. Zong Yang Kong of Sunway University, who has won the Outstanding Asian Researcher and Engineer in SCEJ, as the keynote speaker for process intensification. And we will hold discussions on future direction of multiscale analysis and design through the invited talks by domestic and foreign researchers in the field of chemical engineering and process systems engineering.

  This symposium focuses on the material design connected to the interfacial property. In the symposium, we invite a distinguished professor, Prof. Ho-Hsiu CHOU of National Tsing Hua University (NTHU), who has won "2024 SCEJ Award for Outstanding Asian Researcher and Engineer" for the keynote lecture of this symposium. We also invite active researchers related to the design, synthesis, characterization, and application of cutting-edge materials. We hope this symposium will be fruitful and contribute to the promotion of interdisciplinary research and establishment of international networks between researchers working in this field.

  Various research and development efforts in energy generation and utilization have been actively conducted in response to the problem of reducing CO₂ emissions. Thermal energy, one form of energy, is indispensable for industry and consumer, but it is extremely difficult to store and transport, and low-temperature heat is discarded without being used. Under these circumstances, it is important not only to improve thermal efficiency but also to develop methods, processes, and management technologies to utilize unused heat without wasting in order to reduce CO₂ emissions. In this symposium, we will hold a symposium on heat utilization processes such as thermal circuits, heat management technologies, and high-efficiency heat utilization, and will actively discuss heat utilization.
